To Bae, On Valentine’s Day

To My Future Husband,

I’m not sure if I know you, if we’ve met yet, or if you’re right in front of me.  But I’ll tell you one thing… on days like today, I think about you most.

This year I’m celebrating another Valentine’s Day without you, but I cannot wait to spend a lifetime of them with you in our future. I imagine waking up next to you on this special day and thanking God.  I will thank him for every year I woke up alone because it was that time that he was preparing us both. I will look over at you while you are still sleeping but I say a quick prayer over you. I’ll slide out of the bed quietly and tiptoe to the closet full of gifts I’ve been hiding for weeks. I can’t wait to send you on the scavenger hunt that traces back the story of our love.

But hubby, I wonder what you’re doing today. Where are you? Who are you spending it with? Will we talk about our Valentine’s Days past?

More than just the time we will spend on this special day, I wonder what you’re like. What drives you? What gets you out of bed in the morning? What can’t you live without? Do you talk to God every day?

You must be funny and witty if I decided to marry you. What is your sense of humor like?  I hope I don’t have to say “Babe, I’m just kidding!” after every other joke I tell you, do I? Also, I know there’s only a few seasons, but I really hope you’ll watch reruns of The Carmichael Show for hours with me. The gentrification episode is one of my favs, I know all the words.

Do you golf? If you don’t golf already, I promise to drop you off and pick you up from every lesson I voluntarily sign you up for. I promise never to make you play more than 18 holes unless it’s your idea.

Where’s your favorite place to travel? Where do you want to go next? I can’t wait to share these experiences with you. I’ll likely ask you to take a milion videos and pictures of me, but don’t worry, you’ll catch on to my angles quick.

Husband,  I hope you’re ready to receive an unlimited amount of love, not just on Valentine’s Day but every day. Because babe, I can’t wait to give it.

Your Anxious Wife,

Ashley

    1. Thanks girl! 🙂 That he will be.

  3. It will be interesting to see what you write to yourself valentines coming up. I doubt you will have a man by the then if you don’t already have one. So many of you black women blogging about looking for a man it’s getting old. There is more to life than stressing about finding a man.
